The essential setup and compatibility answers for the Freewell 3× Telephoto Macro Lens.
Use the smartphone’s main camera at a 4× setting, or a telephoto camera at 5× or above. Choose the camera module that aligns with the 17mm mount on your case or cage.
The telephoto lens uses a 17mm bayonet mount and is made for compatible 17mm phone cases and cages. Confirm your mounting system places the lens over the camera you plan to use.
Mount the 3× telephoto lens first, then place the included macro module on its front. It attaches magnetically—there is no separate macro lens to mount to the phone.
For telephoto, the best-focus guidance is 10 meters on Apple devices and 3 meters on Android devices. For macro, begin at 300mm (30cm) from the subject and fine-tune your position.
It is not required, but support is recommended when combining high in-phone magnification with the 3× optical lens. A tripod or firm grip helps produce steadier framing and cleaner detail.
