Which memory cards can the Freewell Pro Reader read?
It reads and writes one CFexpress Type A card, one CFexpress Type B card, one SD card and one microSD card. The SD and microSD slots support SD, SDHC and SDXC formats, including UHS-I and UHS-II SD cards.
Can all four card-reader slots work at the same time?
Yes. CFexpress Type A, CFexpress Type B, SD and microSD can appear as separate drives and operate simultaneously, subject to the connected device, its available power and total bandwidth.
How fast is the Pro Card Reader?
The CFexpress Type A and B slots support a USB 3.2 Gen 2 connection up to 10Gbps. The SD and microSD slots support up to a 5Gbps USB 3.2 Gen 1 connection. Real transfer speed depends on the card, cable, port, host device and simultaneous workload.
Does it support UHS-II SD cards?
Yes. The SD slot supports UHS-II as well as UHS-I SD, SDHC and SDXC cards. The microSD slot supports microSD, microSDHC and microSDXC media.
Does the Freewell Pro Reader support XQD or traditional CompactFlash cards?
No. It is designed for CFexpress Type A, CFexpress Type B, SD and microSD. XQD and traditional CompactFlash cards are different formats and are not supported.
Can I use it with an iPad, smartphone, Mac, Windows PC or Linux computer?
It is plug-and-play with compatible Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iPadOS devices. Mobile devices need a supported USB-C connection, OTG or external-drive access, and enough power for the connected cards.
Do I need to install a driver or app?
No driver or dedicated app is required on supported operating systems. Insert the card, connect the reader, and access it through the device's normal file manager.
How many spare cards can it store?
The internal organizer stores one CFexpress Type A card, one CFexpress Type B card, three SD cards, six microSD cards and two Nano SIM cards, plus the included eject pin. The Nano SIM positions are storage only, not SIM readers.
What comes with the Pro Reader?
The package includes the Pro Reader, a carabiner, a Type-C-female to USB-A adapter and an eject pin. A suitable data cable is required for your host device.
