Both Pro models share three 48MP rear cameras: Main, Ultra Wide and a dedicated 4x Telephoto. The Main camera introduces four aperture settings, from ƒ/1.48 to ƒ/4.0. There is also an 8x optical-quality option; that is distinct from a separate 8x optical lens.

Think of aperture as a creative choice. Open it in dim light, or stop down when you want more of a group or a layered scene in focus. The new Pro controls bring shutter speed, white balance and a histogram into the Camera app, making those choices easier to repeat from shot to shot.

That matters when filming a sequence. A consistent exposure and colour balance help a wide establishing shot, a close-up and a moving shot feel as though they belong together.

02 / OPTICAL CHARACTER

Give a familiar scene a wider story.

The native cameras cover everyday framing beautifully. An anamorphic lens becomes interesting when you want a different visual language: a wider horizontal composition, distinctive flare and more room around your subject.

Imagine a person walking through a mountain landscape. Leave space for the trail and weather, keep the person small within the frame, and the place becomes part of the story. This is the kind of composition the Freewell × Steven Divish Pro Cine lenses invite.

Choose a recording format you can finish.

The Pro models support 4K Dolby Vision up to 120 fps on the Main camera, plus ProRes up to 4K120 with external recording, ProRes RAW and Apple Log 2. These open up serious editing workflows, but they also ask more of your storage and post-production process.

For a quick travel diary, a straightforward recording format can be the right choice. For a film you intend to colour-grade, plan the look, storage and editing software before leaving home. Test the full recording chain with your chosen app, cable and external drive before a paid shoot.

External recording with Pro SSD Link

When your shoot calls for external storage, the Freewell Pro SSD Link brings a compact recording solution to a compatible iPhone Pro setup. It supports M.2 2230 NVMe SSDs up to 8TB and a 10Gbps USB connection for direct 4K ProRes recording, with MagSafe attachment to keep the setup close to the phone.

A dedicated USB-C audio port and PD pass-through charging help you plan sound, storage and power together. The built-in fan and aluminum heatsink manage heat around the drive. It supports up to 100W PD pass-through; the phone draws power at its own supported charging rate.

Pair it with a suitable SSD and cable, then test sustained recording in your chosen format. Available recording modes depend on the phone, app and drive; the connection speed alone does not guarantee every resolution or frame rate.

04 / BATTERY & BUILD

The phone you want to carry all day.

iPhone 18 Pro pairs a 6.3-inch display with a 211g body; Pro Max moves to 6.9 inches and 249g. Both use an aluminum unibody, Ceramic Shield 2 at the front and Ceramic Shield at the back. A20 Pro and a redesigned vapor chamber support sustained performance.

The smaller Pro is appealing when you carry a phone, microphone and lens for hours. Pro Max gives you more screen space to check framing and focus. Add the weight of the finished setup when deciding what feels comfortable in your hand.

Published video-playback figures reach up to 36 hours for Pro and 45 hours for Pro Max on eSIM-only models. Those are playback ratings, not continuous filming times; camera use, screen brightness, temperature and connected accessories change the result. Keep power and storage in the same planning conversation.

05 / IPHONE DUO

A bigger canvas. A different camera choice.

Duo combines a 5.4-inch outer screen with a 7.6-inch folding inner display in a titanium design. The larger canvas gives you more space to look through a composition or review your images, while Duo Preview adds another way to work with the people in front of the camera.

Its 48MP Main and 48MP Ultra Wide cameras include a 2x optical-quality option, but no dedicated Pro-style telephoto. The Main aperture is fixed at ƒ/1.6. It supports 4K Dolby Vision up to 120 fps on the Main camera; its listed recording formats are HEVC and H.264, so do not assume the Pro recording workflow carries across.

Duo’s two batteries work together, with ratings of up to 31 hours of video playback on the inner screen or 44 hours on the outer screen. How you use those displays matters.

Choose Duo if the folding screen is central to your day. Choose a Pro model if lens reach and the Pro video workflow are your priority. Freewell accessories discussed here require a compatible mounting setup; a Pro or Pro Max case will not fit Duo.

TAKE IT OUTSIDE

Build around the photographs you want to make.

For daylight video, start with the correct case and an ND filter. For a widescreen short film, add a Steven Divish anamorphic lens and its matching filter solution. For atmospheric evening portraits, explore diffusion and work with the light already in the scene.

You do not need every accessory for every outing. A small, familiar setup makes it easier to notice the moment and be ready when it happens.
