An ND/PL filter combines neutral density and polarization. Neutral density reduces incoming light so a slower cinematic shutter is practical in daylight, while the polarizer helps manage reflections and glare from surfaces such as water, glass, foliage, cars, and snow.
Mount the filter, point the camera at the final composition, and rotate the polarizer while watching the live image. Stop when reflections and color look natural. The effect changes with the direction of the light, the camera angle, and the reflective surface.
Start with ND8/PL in softer daylight, ND16/PL in typical sun, ND32/PL in bright conditions, and ND64/PL in intense light. Your frame rate, shutter speed, ISO, and actual scene determine the final choice.
