The Real Locking VND Is Here. True Color. True Lock.
For Filmmakers and Creators Who Demand More Than Just a Filter
Great content begins with control. Every frame you shoot, every detail you capture, depends on your ability to master light. Whether you're crafting a cinematic scene, capturing a moment in unpredictable weather, or shooting fast-paced action — you can’t afford compromise.
The Real Locking VND isn’t just a Variable ND + CPL filter. It’s a reimagined tool for creators who need reliability, color precision, and complete command over their image. Designed for professionals. The filter weighs only 41.2g. Built for pressure. Trusted by visionaries.
Control That Locks In — Literally
Threaded and magnetic filters are trusted by creators for their convenience and speed. But when you're shooting in motion — handheld, gimbal, fast-paced environments — even the best systems can face challenges.

That’s why we engineered a new solution: the press-tab locking mechanism. It securely attaches the filter with an audible click, ensuring it stays locked in place. No accidental nudging. No subtle shifts. No second takes because something moved mid-shot.
Whether you’re switching locations quickly or filming in dynamic conditions, the Real Locking VND is built to stay locked on — and locked in.
Color You Can Trust in Every Scene
The number one complaint about VND filters? Color shift. Those unwanted green or magenta tints that destroy your footage and add hours in post.
The Real Locking VND is engineered with True Color Technology to ensure minimal to no color shift across the entire ND range. Whether you’re shooting in golden hour, midday sun, or under cloud-covered skies, your colors stay consistent, clean, and natural.
Variable ND Meets Circular Polarizer — Without Compromise
A car captured with true color, with excessive glares and reflections removed.
This filter combines the power of a Variable ND (3–10 stops) with the creative control of a Circular Polarizer (CPL). That means:
- Shoot wide open in bright light without blowing out highlights
- Remove reflections on water, glass, and metallic surfaces
- Deepen skies and add rich contrast to landscapes
- Enhance skin tone clarity in interviews and portraits
You can adjust ND and polarization separately, so you never have to compromise between exposure and image control.

Understanding Your Filter Options
CPL Filter
Reduces glare, enhances contrast, deepens skies, and controls reflections on water, glass. Use it standalone.

UV Filter
Acts as a clear protective layer for your lens, helping reduce UV haze and shielding against scratches, dust, and water — ideal for outdoor and rugged use.
The difference between using a UV filter and no filter.
ND4 and ND32
Neutral Density filters reduce the amount of light entering the lens.
- ND4 reduces light by 2 stops
- ND32 reduces light by 5 stops. This is included within the All-Day Pack & Mega Pack.
No Filter, ND4, and ND32 Comparison.
Use these for wide aperture shooting in bright light or to add motion blur with slower shutter speeds. You can also stack them with the VND/CPL filter to extend exposure control up to 10+ stops.
ND32 / Glow Mist Hybrid
A creative blend that combines 5-stop light reduction with a dreamy diffusion effect. Great for cinematic portraits and hazy landscapes.
Captured with ND32 / GMIST.
Black Mist 1/4
Reduces contrast and creates blooming highlights for a cinematic, organic feel. Ideal for night scenes, b-roll, or music videos where halation adds emotion.
Captured with Black Glow Mist Filter.
Use it standalone or stack on top of the VND/CPL system. Included in the Mega Kit.
White Mist 1/4
Smooths skin tones and soften harsh digital sharpness. Perfect for interviews, beauty shots, or fashion films. Adds a gentle, film-like quality to bright lighting setups.
Captured with White Snow Mist Filter.
Use it standalone or stack on top of the VND/CPL system. Included in the Mega Kit.
Note: All filters except the CPL can be stacked with the Variable ND / CPL base system.
Frequently Asked Questions
What makes the Real Locking VND different from magnetic ND filters?
It locks directly to the lens using a press-tab system that eliminates wobble and accidental detachment, especially during handheld or high-movement shoots.
I would like to use some filters separately. Is that possible?
Yes. You can purchase and use filters like Black Mist 1/4, White Mist 1/4, ND32 / Glow Mist, ND32, ND4, CPL, and UV as standalones with the locking system.
How does the NFC-enabled cap work?
Tap the front lens cap with your smartphone to access manuals, support documents, and warranty registration. No downloads, no paper. Just instant access.
Is there any color shift when using the Real Locking VND?
No. With True Color Technology, your footage remains natural and color-accurate even at higher ND levels.
What lenses are compatible with the 82mm base ring?
Any lens with an 82mm thread. Additional base rings (49–82mm) are available to fit various lenses.
Is it compatible with other Freewell systems?
